Solomon, retired vascular and general surgeon, established Solomon's Collection & Fine Rugs retail outlets in 1990 as a result of his life-long passion for oriental carpets. Solomon's Collection began as a direct wholesale outlet outside Boston in 1987 and transformed into retail outlets to bring quality rugs with direct wholesale prices directly to individual customers. Originally named Newbury Street Rugs for its location on Newbury Street in Boston, Massachusetts, the name was changed in 2000 to reflect the growth of the business to include the sale of fine antiques and handmade contemporary rugs as well as the move to a larger showroom in Park Square in Boston. Another expansion led to a move 10 minutes south to the current, custom-built showroom with vaulted ceilings and almost 10,000 square feet of show space at 809 Hancock Street (Rt. 3A) in Quincy off I-93 in Wollaston (near the Wollaston redline T station). Today, the discriminating buyer can select from among thousands of quality carpets both in the showroom and online from Persia (Iran), Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Tibet, Turkey, the Caucauses, and the rest of the world.
